SRC Group’s Recycled Products Now Have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

We are delighted to announce that SRC Group’s recycled products have received Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. Independently verified by BRE, our aggregates, sands, sub-base, clay, topsoil and subsoil have all been declared net zero at the point of production; a significant milestone in SRC Group’s sustainability vision.

What Is an Environmental Product Declaration?

An EPD is an internationally-recognised document that provides transparent, independently-verified information about a product’s environmental performance across its life cycle. For our customers, that means access to genuine, measurable data that can support sustainable procurement decisions, rather than relying on general sustainability claims.

SRC Group's Recycled Products Now Have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

What Our Environmental Product Declaration Confirms

Our EPD reports a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 0.00 kg CO₂e across the A1 to A3 stages of the product life cycle (raw material supply, transport and manufacturing). This reflects the way that our recycled materials are recovered and processed, as well as the rigorous testing that sits behind every batch that leaves our recycling facilities.

Reaching this stage involved a thorough independent assessment, with BRE reviewing data from across our recycling operations to verify exactly what happens at each stage of the process. We’re proud that this level of scrutiny confirms what we’ve long believed about the quality and consistency of our recycled materials.

The EPD applies to our recycled aggregates, sands, sub-base, clay, and topsoil and subsoil, but we’re also continuing to explore how independent verification can be extended further across our wider product range in the future.

From Recovered Materials to Verified Products

Every day, materials arrive at our four recycling facilities from demolition sites and earthworks projects across the South East These materials are processed through multi-million-pound recycling systems to produce high quality, tested and certified recycled products for the construction industry. It’s this process, repeated day after day across our network, that sits behind the figures reported in our EPD.

Supporting a Wide Range of Products

These recycled materials are offered as standalone products but also support a huge range of construction projects by forming the foundation of other solutions across our range, including:

ECO-BLOC® Blocks
Our award-winning ECO-BLOC® range is manufactured using a blend of cement and our own recycled fine and coarse aggregates. The blocks are approved to UKCA British standards and are available as both Solid Dense and Medium Dense blocks, giving customers options for load-bearing walls, cavity walls, above and below ground applications, block and beam floors and thermal and sound insulation; offering a genuinely versatile, lower-impact alternative to traditional blockwork.

Ready Mixed Concrete
Our Low-Carbon Ready Mixed Concrete range includes five low-carbon mixes made using significantly less carbon than traditional alternatives. Available from all four of our concrete plants and compliant with BS8500-2 and NHBC specifications, these mixes are suitable for a wide range of ST and GEN mix applications; from groundworks through to high-performance projects.

Whilst these particular products aren’t currently included under the EPD, they’re manufactured using the same recycled materials that are, and we’re proud of the role they play within our wider circular economy approach.

A Valuable Tool for SRC Customers

For our customers, having access to this type of environmental data can make a genuine difference during the procurement process. Whether you’re completing a BREEAM or LEED assessment or comparing recycled materials against virgin alternatives, our EPD supports informed decision-making. It’s also proving valuable for customers who need to evidence their material choices as part of wider environmental reporting during the planning stages, offering a verified figure that they can reference.

We know that sustainability credentials are becoming an increasingly important part of how our customers plan and deliver their own projects and we’re proud to be able to support that with data that they can trust.

Part of a Wider Sustainability Journey

Achieving EPD certification reflects the continued investment that we’ve made into our recycled aggregates and recycling operations as a whole. Each year SRC Group sells more than 1.2 million tonnes of recycled products, which, over the last four years, has helped the construction industry to save over 34.667 million kgs of CO₂e.

This achievement builds on other recent recognition, including our Circular Economy Success Award at the 2026 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, and ECO-BLOC®’s Bronze award at the Global Good Awards. Together, these achievements reflect the progress that we continue to make across our sustainability journey.

Looking Ahead For Environmental Product Declaration

Receiving EPD certification is something that we’re incredibly proud of, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of several SRC Group teams across our recycling operations; from site staff and recycling operatives to everyone involved in maintaining the standards that made this achievement possible.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to strengthening the environmental credentials of our products and helping our customers to achieve their own environmental goals. We look forward to sharing more updates as our sustainability work continues to develop.
